We Tried Everything From Tower 28, Heres What’s Worth It

In today’s beauty landscape, new products are constantly launching to cover all kinds of skin concerns. But despite the wide range of products available, eczema-prone skin is still often an afterthought. Tower 28 is here to change that. 

Founder Amy Liu started the brand after years of working for iconic brands like Smashbox and Kate Sommerville on the marketing side. She loved the brands she was working with but was never able to enjoy testing the newest products without the risk of triggering her eczema. She found that “natural” products, which are often marketed as better for sensitive skin, were still irritating. Clinical brands worked but lacked the fun and joy she wanted from her products. And so, in 2019, Tower 28 was born as a fun, affordable option for sensitive and eczema-prone skin, with an easygoing California-inspired vibe. 

Today the brand is stocked at Sephora, beloved on TikTok, and remains the first and only makeup brand to 100% follow the National Eczema Association’s guidelines. The range is small but mighty, with two skin-care products and five makeup products—though most are a hybrid of the two—all with a cult following. Each product will get you one step closer to dewy, glowing, sun-kissed surfer-girl skin (hence the brand name, referring to the lifeguard tower at the border of Santa Monica and Venice Beach).

“I hope that customers with sensitive skin feel confident in coming to us and trying our products,” Liu tells Glamour. “Having suffered with unreliable skin myself, I know how important it is to have a brand that you can really count on. I was always so wary of testing new things, and would frantically skim through ingredient lists, only to be disappointed. I want Tower 28 to be a place where people like me know that its okay to be sensitive.”

Considering the wild success of Tower 28, it’s safe to say Liu’s wish came true. The brand is stocked at Sephora and Credo, both the blushes and lip jellies have gone viral on TikTok, and its won several beauty awards (including Glamour‘s!)

“Looking back over the last three years since we launched, I have so much to be proud of,” says Liu. “A major ‘pinch-me’ moment was seeing our products on the shelf at Sephora—and even though that first launch was a couple years ago, it still doesn’t get old. I am also so proud of the team we’ve built, and the relationship we all have. After working for many different brands over the years, I know how crucial it is to work with people you both like and respect, and I truly feel inspired by our small but mighty team every single day.”
