Bank of America hires Goldman dealmaker Nick Hopkins to cover technology

Bank of America has hired a Goldman Sachs dealmaker to bolster its coverage of technology companies in Europe.

Nick Hopkins joined the US investment bank as a managing director within its technology, media and telecoms team. He will report to Alexandre Gafsi and Emmanuel Hibou, co-heads of Emea TMT investment banking, according to people familiar with the hire.

Hopkins has spent the last 13 years at Goldman Sachs, latterly covering technology companies.

Dealmakers who specialise in the technology sector remain in demand despite a broader downturn in recruitment as the fees have slumped so far this year after a record 2021 when revenues hit $130bn globally.

Earlier this month, Morgan Stanley hired Tammo Buennemeyer from Deutsche Bank to cover technology companies in Germany. Vivek Manipadam rejoined Credit Suisse in May as a managing director within its Emea TMT unit and Citigroup has continued to hire for its technology and communications team under former European investment banking boss, Phil Drury.

Nomura is also building a team of senior bankers focused on technology, which could include up to 15 managing directors.
