Woman found fatally shot at Oak Park BP gas station: Police

Oak Park police are investigating the early morning shooting death Wednesday of a woman found in the parking lot of a local gas station that nearby residents have taken to social media to say is a source of safety concerns.

According to a notice posted on the Oak Park Police Department’s Facebook page, officers responded around 1:52 a.m. to the 100 block of Chicago Avenue — at Taylor Avenue — on a call of shots fired and found a woman unresponsive in a parking lot there.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, the woman has not been identified.

Police said in the social media post that the woman had an apparent gunshot wound to the head area.

“A witness reported seeing two male subjects who approached the victim from behind, fired one shot, took items from the victim and fled the scene in the victim’s dark Chrysler vehicle,” the social media post states.

The woman was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said in the post.

Some people who identified themselves as residents living nearby the gas station replied on the police department’s post, asking other area residents to join forces to address what they described as ongoing crime at the gas station.

“So many shootings at that gas station,” one responder wrote.

Another called for the 24-hour gas station “to be shut down or closed at a reasonable hour.”

Gas station owners could not be immediately reached for comment.

The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, along with other area police departments, is assisting in the fatal shooting investigation.

Authorities ask that anyone with information about the incident call the Oak Park Police Department at 708-386-3800. Information may be provided anonymously by calling 708-434-1636 or online at www.oak-park.us/crimetip.
